Adoption and Rescue

Sondra and Blitz have been connected with taking in dogs from high-kill shelters and breed rescues. She has dealt with dogs that are either not easily rehomed or in need of behavior modification. She has the experience and the skill needed to rehabilitate dogs into wonderful pets and/or working companions. Click here for "Marlow"'s story... giving an opportunity for another happy rescue!

Sondra's Rescue Goal

"I make a difference one dog at a time with a few angels on the inside, dealing with high-kill shelters and keeping an eye out for those special-case dogs. I would say most have been inappropriately evaluated, on their last days with their time or have issues that could be guided, reconditioned and controlled. With proper understanding in the instincts and treating the dog individually, there can be a way without labeling an ultimately aggressive, fearful, or worst of all, a fighting dog. I constantly want to prove to people that the most extreme case can be one of simple misunderstanding and can be guided to a successful future. As I am alerted to certain dogs, I follow personally with an evaluation, not simply the shelter's depiction. I continue with either taking the dog into my environment or contacting one of my foster homes. Unlike many breed rescues, I continue to work with each dog extracted from the shelter or situation. I have dealt with everything from abandonment, extreme behaviors, aggression, feral dogs and fight cases. My foster homes are not novices with crates but past or present clients that have or are in the process of learning with me how to successfully train and condition their own K9 partner. This allows me consistent and proper weekly involvement in the developmental process, thus ensuring the rehabilitation to continue and succeed into adoption. (However, the most extreme cases stay with me, in my environment, with my pack dogs.) A careful and thorough screening of possible homes interested in adoption is where I spend a lot of my time. I only ask for two primary referrals - typically, these are a vet and a family member. I discuss the prospect's normal daily lifestyle which is key in understanding K9 suitability. A home visit prior to adoption ensures this compatibility as well. In addition, I am most interested in seeing one on one time with the possible K9 partner at my facility. I feel the bond of a forever home needs to be seen and felt, as does the environment that suits the partnership. Whether this is for a family companion or 9 to 5 workforce pooch I will do all to ensure success. Follow-up home visits ensure that the adoption has been successful.
Sometimes I have multiple dogs available or dogs that are ready for their adopted homes. I always enjoy when someone is particular and waiting for just the right one. I will assist in shelter visits as well, contacting outreach shelters for the closest match to one's criteria. Finding the perfect family companion, home protector, working companion or competition prospect is what I take pride in accomplishing. I have rescued, rehabilitated and trained even the most difficult dogs, from severe aggressive to feral. I completely support myself in this endeavor but also count on volunteers and donations. I ask of no donation fee or reimbursement of vet bills. My reward is the success of finding that perfect loving home for each of my deserving rehabilitated fosters. I have had a 100% success rate thus proving my selection process works!"
